WIDA

WIDA now stands for World-class Instructional Design and Assessment.  It originally stood for Wisconsin, Deleware, and Arkansas, the three states that started the process of combining to create assessments of English Language Learners language proficiency.

Daron Kennett, assessment specialist for the state office of education, showed us a powerpoint about ACCESS, the assessment EL's language proficiency.
(ACCESS stands for Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners.  Someone at WIDA works very hard on acronyms.)

The WIDA website includes can-do descriptors.

There is also a blog that discusses issues relating to teaching ELLs.

  1. I like how you've looked at this test from a "can do" perspective so you know what the data is telling you if a student takes it.
